About Gerlin Pierre-Louis

Hi, I’m Gerlin — a software engineer who builds things for the web.

My path here wasn’t traditional. I started in IT, helping clients troubleshoot and navigate software — and somewhere along the way, helping people use tools turned into wanting to build better ones. I taught myself to code, made the switch, and haven’t looked back.

Today I work as a software engineer at ezCater, where I focus on frontend development with React and TypeScript. I’ve worked on design system migrations, large-scale codebase restructuring, and improving real user experiences — from checkout flows to SEO to code quality and observability.

I still care about what got me here: the idea that good technology should bridge gaps — between industries, between communities, and between what’s possible and what’s actually been built.

Every great developer you know got there by solving problems they were unqualified to solve until they actually did it.

Where I’ve worked Companies, co-ops & civic tech

Software Engineer

ezCater 2025–2026

Working on the frontend of a food ordering platform used by thousands of companies. Focused on building reliable, well-crafted software that makes the experience better for both users and engineers.

  • Restructured 16 frontend modules into a layered architecture, making it easier for the team to navigate and own the codebase
  • Refactored 9 legacy modal groups into a single unified component, bringing consistency to the product’s most user-facing interactions
  • Built and migrated UI components into a shared design system using shadcn and Tailwind CSS
  • Added observability to the GraphQL client layer so the team can respond faster when things break
  • Improved checkout UX, SEO, type safety, and CI reliability across the platform

Software Engineer Co-op

Salsify June 2022–December 2022

My first engineering role at a product company. Worked on the platform administration team building settings and tools for internal teams and enterprise clients.

  • Shipped features using TypeScript, Ember.js, Ruby on Rails, and GraphQL
  • Built an email permissions feature that reduced admin overhead by 25%
  • Designed a webhooks audit UI and implemented API key management for enterprise users
  • Fixed production bugs using New Relic and PaperTrail, clearing 15% of the backlog

Contributing to MAPLE — a civic tech platform where Massachusetts residents can share their perspectives on legislation that affects their daily lives.

  • Building and shipping features on a real public-facing product
  • Part of a community of developers using tech to make government more accessible
